Supporting Good Child mental Health

As parents and carers we all want our children to flourish and be healthy, however sometimes we aren’t sure how to do this, particularly around child mental health.

Child mental health is complex and multi-dimensional (which is why professionals train for many years to work in this area) however there are things we can all do to help:

Firstly its important to acknowledge that each child is unique and different. We are all shaped by many things, including where we live and what happens to us, the same is true for children.

We can start to understand them as unique by working through the following two sections:

Understanding Temperament- do watch the video, print and complete the worksheet and help you and your child understand what makes them unique.

Understanding your child at their particular age and development stage is important. Children aren’t small adults their brains are very different and they are still growing and developing. Do take a look at our What’s normal section for more information.

Building emotional wellbeing

This is important for ALL our children, as building emotional wellbeing prevents problems down the line and helps children to enjoy the now.

Building emotional wellbeing is multi facetted and therefore there are a number of jigsaw pieces we recommend you read through and then work through with your child. (Click onto each jigsaw piece for more information)
